Why Corona-Virus Disease called “COVID-19”?

The first case of Corona-Virus was identified in Wuhan City, China on November 7, 2020. In March 2020, World Health Organization declared it a “Pandemic Disease”. WHO also announced official name of Corona-Virus disease “COVID-19”.


COVID-10 is a short word that stands for three different words, as following.

  • CO: Corona
  • VI: Virus
  • D: Disease
  • 19: 2019 (as first case was identified in 2019).

Corona-Virus or COVID-19 is a pandemic disease which transmits from person to person. It causes mild upper-respiratory tract illness. This virus has been first ever time seen in human history, that’s why it is also called Novel corona-virus.
