Names of the Hudson River Helicopter Disaster Victims
A family of five from Spain lost their lives in a tragic helicopter crash in the Hudson River in New York City on Thursday afternoon. The tragedy happened when a New York Helicopter sightseeing helicopter broke apart in midair and fell into the river after suffering a catastrophic breakdown. Agustin Escobar, a well-known professional who was the President and CEO of Siemens in Spain, his wife Merce Camprubi Montal, and their three young children, ages four, five, and eleven, were on board the plane. Sadly, none of the passengers made it out alive.
The Escobar family had only arrived in New York City earlier that day, according to The New York Times, after traveling from Barcelona for what was probably supposed to be a holiday. Authorities have not yet made the name of the pilot, who also died in the disaster, public.
Information about the Crash and Flight
The Bell 206 L-4 type, a 15-year-old helicopter registered with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), was the aircraft involved in the sad incident. At 2:59 p.m., it took off from the Downtown Manhattan Heliport, a well-liked starting place for picturesque helicopter tours of New York City. According to reports, the helicopter’s flight route looped back down the Hudson River’s New Jersey side after ascending toward the George Washington Bridge.
However, the helicopter abruptly vanished from radar at around 3:25 p.m. The pilot was returning to the heliport to refuel when the aircraft experienced issues, according to Michael Roth, CEO of New York Helicopter Tour.
Teams of emergency personnel from the FDNY, NYPD, and other local organizations raced to the scene of the collision. At a news conference, NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch stated that police divers had rescued all six people on board the helicopter, including the pilot, from the water. Two were taken to a local hospital, where they eventually passed away from their wounds, while the other four were pronounced expired at the spot.
Eyewitness Testimonies and Startling Video
Many onlookers recorded terrifying video of the collision and watched the event unfold in real time. Witnesses captured footage of the chopper disintegrating in midair before it struck the lake. In one very terrifying video, just before the helicopter nosedived into the river, the main rotor of the aircraft separated from the aircraft and spun into the water.
A 21-year-old construction worker who was working close to the shoreline at the time of the collision was among the first witnesses to come forward. He recounted the terrifying series of events, stating that the helicopter was only briefly visible on the water’s surface before swiftly sinking. Before it submerged, it may have been above the water for three or four seconds. He told the New York Post, “It was quick.”
His account was supported by several witnesses. Numerous witnesses claimed to have seen the plane split in two, with the propeller dropping into the river independently and pieces of the tail breaking off. When the helicopter broke apart, witnesses reportedly reported hearing a tremendous, explosive sound.
One witness recalled, “When it hit, there was a boom sound.” It sounded almost like something breaking in midair, like a crackling. The helicopter continued to make a lot of noise before crashing into the ocean with a thunderous thud.
An investigation is underway.
In order to ascertain the reason behind the mechanical breakdown and whether any additional circumstances may have contributed to the tragedy, the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) has stated that it has begun a thorough investigation into the disaster. Together, FAA and NTSB officials will be analyzing the wreckage that was recovered from the river and going over the helicopter’s flight logs, maintenance records, pilot credentials, and meteorological information.

The sudden d***h of Agustin Escobar and his young family has sparked an outpouring of sorrow from friends, coworkers, and government representatives. He was a well-known figure in international business circles and a recognized leader in the technological sector.
The firm that operated the d**d*y flight, New York Helicopter, has halted all such tours while the investigation is ongoing. Although tourist helicopter tours are a well-liked attraction in New York, particularly for foreign tourists, this accident is posing significant concerns over the safety procedures, aircraft maintenance requirements, and pilot training methods used by the city’s private tour companies.
